Spiritually Healthy

From Michelle, Healthy Homes team leader*:

My mission is to help you create a healthy spirit and soul.

If you are not well spiritually or emotionally, you can have physical health problems as a result.  Anger, rage, bitterness or resentment can manifest itself in many ways - as ulcers or headaches for example.

Many people talk in vague spiritual terms - of a Supreme Being, a Spiritual Force, or of a god.  I'm going to skip all that, and tell you what I believe is the real issue when it comes to spiritual health.  You decide what you want to do with this information.  If you have any other questions, please e-mail me direct at spirituallyhealthy@ourhealthyhomes.com.

Living by Biblical Principles

No matter what you believe about God and spirituality, one thing is true.  If you live by Biblical principles, you will live well.  For example, giving generously (whether time or money) will always reap rewards.  Forgiveness releases emotions of anger and bitterness, and any physical consequences of those emotions.  And, honesty - no matter how difficult - creates integrity and peace (not to mention that deception takes a lot of work to maintain).

The Real Issue

The real issue is Jesus, and who you believe he is.  A good guy?  A prophet?  A great teacher?  I challenge you to read the gospel of John.  In it, you'll read what Jesus said about himself.  He never called himself a prophet or a teacher.  Instead, he claimed to be the key to a relationship with God.

How does it all work?  Here are some resources for you to explore.  Some of these resources were written for college students, however they are relevant even if you're not in college.

Resources

If you're still a skeptic, I encourage you to read Lee Strobel's books.  He is a journalist (my original profession), who didn't believe in God.  In fact, he set out to prove the Bible false.  He's compiled the evidence he discovered in the books below.

Here are some other classics I also recommend, including Rick Warren's The Purpose-Driven Life.  I've read it several times, and find it very helpful in gaining spiritual perspective. The other books here are classics - what more can I say?

*This is Michelle's personal message, and does not necessarily reflect the views of every member of the Healthy Homes team.  Adherence to this belief is not required to be a part of the Healthy Homes team.
